Message from Secretary DOA and President DOA

It gives me immense pleasure and my heart is overwhelmed with both excitement and satisfaction while drafting this message for DOACON 2021. This year the DOACON is being held in one of the oldest and most prestigious medical colleges of India, the Lady Hardinge Medical College. The last two years or so have been very stressful due to the pandemic and we have been delivering numerous academic and non - academic webinars through electronic media to our dear members. On the occasion of our country having achieved a milestone in its vaccination drive, we are hopefully progressing to an eventful, interactive, socializing, de-stressing and knowledge- enhancing DOACON. The year 2019 was filled with physical conferences and then came the COVID enforced transition to a webinar based 2020. Now as I approach the culmination of my three year tenure as the Secretary, I feel heartened as we enter a happy, hybrid DOACON 2021, where we hope to get an opportunity to meet each other in person.

The Lady Hardinge Medical College under leadership of Dr R.K. Kanojia is going to direct the DOACON which will be the epitome of knowledge, learning and interaction. His hardworking team has efficiently met all DOA deadlines. This year we are implementing some novel ideas which we were unfortunately not able to carry out due to the pandemic. We are organizing two workshops, the first one is cadaveric which we feel is essential part of surgical training. LHMC and DOA have restarted this workshop after a hiatus of one and a half years. The topic of this cadaveric workshop is PCL reconstruction and Latarjet procedure. The second workshop is a CTEV workshop on sawbones. We at DOA believe LHMC is one of the best places to learn CTEV management in the country.

The steadfast resolve of the organizing team is reflected in the huge number of abstracts (250 across all categories) received. The National and International faculty for the conference have been chosen diligently.

DOA has always maintained a delicate balance between academic and social/recreational events in the annual calendar planned for its members. This year we have invited various DOA members to display their talents apart from orthopaedics. The photography exhibition and the DOA band is the brainchild of our President and EC. (Events not to be missed)

Some members may be feeling despondent due to the stresses of the pandemic. To uplift their spirits and cheer them up, the LHMC team has organized the program, 'Laugh with Padmashree awardee, Mr. Surender Sharma'. The hosts have organized a delectable feast at a nearby five star hotel. Members may join us while observing all necessary COVID precautions.

All the best to DOACON 2021 organizing team.
